MINUTES
15/05/00

Present: Andy, Oli, Jimmer, Baz, Kit. Iain had
previously apologised for his non-attendance due to a family bereavement.
The meeting gradually drifted into being in order at approximately 2045.
1/ MAY BRAWL
The bands (Akercocke, Infestation, As She Screams)
have now confirmed that they will play on the 17th June 2000. Publicity
was discussed and it was agreed that Baz was to mail rocksoc-announce with
the details, whilst Andy agreed to print off some tickets. This led on
to a discussion of ticket prices, and it was decided that £2.50 for
members and £3.50 for non-members was reasonable in order not to
make a loss of more than about £100. It was also decided that tickets
should be on sale to members only for the first two weeks, and that all
tickets on the door are to be priced £3.50.
Further to publicity, Kit said she would speak
to Tom to spread the word round APU, and that a mailshot should be arranged
to reach the 45 or so members without an e-mail address. Baz was instructed
to buy some envelopes. Andy also agreed to make some flyers / posters to
be included in the mailshot and to be put up at WUS. Insurance was also
discussed, and it was agreed that Andy would ask Iain how expensive this
would be - if this was not significantly less than the maximum amount we
would lose in the event of a catastrophe such as last time (about £150),
it was agreed not to bother.
Other publicity ideas included on-line Varsity
and the web site (see later).
2/ T SHIRTS
It was decided that the new design is to be the
one contributed by Oliver-Michael last week - 'Scream' mask with long hair
on front and 'Are you going to Wake Up Screaming?' on the back. Oliver-Michael
promised he would give Oli a drawing this week for Oli to scan and take
to the printers. There then followed a period of frantic discussion and
calculation, which culminated with the decision that we want 30 large shirts,
18 skinnies and 12 long-sleeves. Including the two screens
required this was worked out to cost about £500.
It was commented that Rocksoc appears to be spending a lot of money at
the moment, but it was noted that we would be selling these at just less
than cost so will make the money back (with the two screens only costing
£40).
3/ MAIDEN TRIP
Andy revealed that the minibus is going to cost
£74, and about £25 of diesel was estimated to be required.
As it had previously been agreed that Rocksoc was to subsidise about £100
to this venture, it was agreed to pay the whole lot. Andy promised to bother
rocksoc-official and get a final list of who was going.
4/ JON JARRET'S E-MAIL
The e-mail in question concerned a couple of psych
bands that are interested in playing in Cambridge. It was decided to ask
them to send us a CD, which we will listen to and consider them for next
term. It was noted that we already have an extremely busy June coming up,
that we have bands coming out of our ears, and that we should see what
goes wrong with the May Brawl first.
5/ MANDATE
It was observed that the mandate from the bank
has still not been signed, but as Iain was not here, there was little we
could do about it until someone catches up with him.
6/ ROCKSOC PICNIC
The Rocksoc Picnic is to occur on 18th June 2000
(i.e. the day after the May Brawl) on Parkers' Piece (from midday 'somewhere
near the middle'). People are unlikely to be able to miss us, as we will
all be wearing black on a hot summer's day and playing extremely loud music
from a ghetto blaster. Baz said he'd mail rocksoc-official about it. It
was agreed that this should be advertised on the flyer with the May Brawl
which Andy thusly agreed to add to. The flyers were decided to be A6. Kit
said she'd also have the Maiden playback night flyers sorted this week
and Baz agreed to put them in the mailshot as well.
7/ NEW FLYER
This led on to discussion of a new flyer. Jimmer
agreed to design this as he was best aware of Dave Tyler's specifications
(though he dismissed this as slander). Baz was told off for not having
brought the Rocksoc Folder with him and cowered beneath the wrath of El
Presidente. Oli said he'd mail Jimmer a copy of the old one for comparison.
8/ WEBSITE
This basically consisted of a lot of bitching
(as usual). Jimmer was instructed to shout at Roz (Oli is too frightened
allegedly). He was also told to make sure that all mail sent to the f9
account which the site is on is not ignored. Further, he was instructed
to make sure up-and-coming events are on the site IN TIME. Once Jimmer
had been suitably chastened, Kit observed that at least five people had
now demonstrated that it was physically impossible to keep the website
up to date.
9/ ROCKSOC BEERFEST TRIP
Everybody was very bored by this stage and this
essentially boiled down to - do we really think that the Committee needs
to organise the members to go to the Beerfest? It was decided that everyone
who wanted to go was going to go anyway and could organise themselves.
Oli insisted that he was going to mail rocksoc-announce anyway. The
meeting dissolved at about 2140. Jimmer and Baz discussed the notion that
Rocksoc was possibly getting a bit too bureaucratic. Oli commented that
as we were no longer quorate the discussion should not be entered into
the minutes as an official notion.
