Minutes of RockSoc Committee Meeting
6th May 2002

Present: Baz, Jester, Bonzo, Ben. Also Jason and Andy M of the outgoing committee.

Apologies: Oli, Oliver and Emma

1) Mandate
In the absence of the treasurer, it was decided to sign the bloody mandate at WUS tomorrow, as most of the relevant people were either DJing or WUS officer :-)

ACTION: Everyone who needs to sign this damn mandate to turn up to WUS tomorrow.=!

2) Cancelled WUS 21/5
Baz asked Andy to phone Emma to find out what she had arranged. Emma hadn't, but said that she would book a venue for a social/playback party tomorrow and e-mail the committee at once.

Bonzo showed the proofs of some notices and flyers to use tomorrow to alert the WUS regulars to the cancelled WUS. The committee approved these. They lack the details of what will replace WUS. Bonzo will add these and print off before WUS tomorrow as soon as Emma mails her to tell her what's happening. Providing it's by 7pm,as Bonzo will be leaving at 7.10.

ACTION: Emma to book the Graduate first thing Tue.
Bonzo to bring flyers to WUS.

3) WUS publicity
Listings have appeared in Varsity, CS and the CEN this week, and probably in AdHoc too, but as yet the committee haven't got their act together to check.

Andy has prepared a CD with a poster and a flyer of WUS publicity. He will give this to Emma who will arrange for 5000 flyers to be printed by next Monday at Mail, Boxes etc. Also some posters. Andy will also mail the files to the Committee so that they can print flyers if they want.

Baz has not yet spoken to Kerrap! or Terrorizer about featuring the club. He will do so. Honest.

Ben is in negotiations to get a member of Therapy? to DJ at WUS to attract publicity.

ACTION:
Andy and Emma to get the flyers printed.
Baz to phone magazines about sponsored clubnights.

4) MayBrawl
The Junction has requested that RockSoc contact them ASAP about publicity. Baz agreed to do this, since Emma is not at the meeting.

Support acts need to be booked. Geared4, DarkCell and Blackrock have all agreed that they can do it. It was decided to hire Darkcell and Blackrock, as they haven't played locally recently, and they will also give a good range of styles of metal, providing something for everyone. Geared4 are excellent, but played here last week, so we shall keep them in reserve in case anyone lese pulls out.

Bonzo asked if Kill II This have any fans around here, as a straw poll of the metal obsessives in the 5th form at her school produced the consistent reply 'Who the fuck are Kill II This?'. Baz and Ben thought that they weren't a T shirt band, but they had a following who would arrive to see them live.

Publicity: we need to put listings in all the magazines and this must be arranged at the next meeting at the latest. It was reported that Kill II This have announced the date on their website. Baz will see if it is too late to get listings in Mental Hamster, Terrorizer etc.
Jason will arrange for it to be mentioned on the local radio.

Baz and Jimmer debated the goth content of various Paradise Lost albums. Jimmer denied that there was a goth inside him. Ian suggested that perhaps Jimmer would like to be inside a goth. Jimmer also mentioned that he did not want to eat a whole goth. Baz suggested that he eat half a goth.

Baz called the meeting to order.

5) Gig 18th May
The bands for this have still not been hired. Sicboy Federation cannot appear as they have a gig that night. AR have not yet been contacted. D-void and Asylum have said that they would like to do it.

It was agreed that a bill of D-void, Asylum and AR should be aimed for. If we can track down AR in the next couple of days. Andy should ask D-void to play, and Jimmer should try to confirm with Asylum.

The running order was discussed. It was decided that, provisionally, the running order should be Asylum, D-void, AR.

ACTION: Andy M to confirm D-void
Jimmer to confirm Asylum and try to find AR.

6) Gig 24th May
Emma is requested to inform the committee promptly about progress. Andy M will e-mail her to ask what has been arranged about this and many other events.

ACTION: Andy to e-mail Emma.

7) The Sick and the Dead
The committee expressed surprise on discovering that this event was THIS FRIDAY. It was agreed that sorting something out now might be a good course of action.

It was agreed that the event would take place in the Function Room of the Graduate, from 7.30pm to 11pm. We will use the Graduate's desks as ours lack a vital adapter.

As for publicity: Baz will put an announcement on -official
Bonzo will put listings in Varsity and AdHoc, although the relevant paper copies have probably already gone to press, built at least it will appear on the website.
Jimmer will get a big piece of paper and write on it in a BIG BLACK PEN. He will put this in a prominent place at WUS and those on the door can point to it in an enthusiastic manner when customers come in.

It was agreed that the responsibility for providing CDs would be as followed:

Andy M: all Megadeth, all relevant Maiden
Jimmer: Testament (all he has)
Jason: all Alice in Chains
Baz: a Testament compilation, some Death, Venom's decent output, and Bonded by Blood (Exodus)
Bonzo; Testament- the Legacy
Ian : lots of Exodus

It was discovered that no-one present owned any Feeder. Or knew anyone who might. Baz thought Andy Sheppard has some and will ask him.

ACTION: Bonzo to put listings in Varsity and AdHoc
Baz to mail -official
Jimmer to make a notice
The above named to bring these CDs to the Graduate on Friday on pain of death.

8) Festivals
Andy has asked for interest for Graspop. He will organise Wacken later. Bonzo is worried that no flights will be available, it being the middle of the tourist season, but no-one else agreed. Bonzo said 'Oh, OK'

Baz forgot to ask for interest for Donington. He will.

Donington is spelt thus.

9) Termcards
Emma has not got these, but says that she will have them by tomorrow and she'll bring them to WUS and give them to Bonzo

10) Paying Bonzo and Matt
The chequebook and the cash box are conspicuous by their absence. We'll try to sort this out at WUS.

Bonzo mentioned that she had two legs.

11) AOB
Ben put to the committee a change to 4 1h15min sets at WUS. The committee agreed. Andy put forth Taff's suggestion that the biggest crowd was at 10.30 to 12, and suggested that we play commercial music then and more obscure stuff in the last set. Ben agreed that a trial of this plan might be good, and agreed to think of it when booking DJs.

FKA was raised. Baz suggested that we try to get this running in October when the Freshers arrived.

Andy suggested that if numbers were found in months to come not to justify the hiring of the Kambar any longer, we could try the Sophbeck. We need only pay for the rooms we use there, so during the holidays we can pay less. Andy agreed to get exact costs from the Sophbeck for next meeting. Baz asked what the PA at the Sophbeck was like. Some members of local bands found this amusing and laughed a lot.

ACTION: Andy to look into hiring the Sophbeck. And to fond out if their PA still cuts out at random.

Meeting closed 9.45pm.
