Minutes of the RockSoc Committee Meeting
22nd July 2002

Present: Elizabeth, Oliver, Emma, Oli
Apologies: Baz (not in Cambridge), Jester (unwell)
Meeting opened: 2117

1) Minutes for approval
Richard informed the meeting that the FTSE had fallen below 4000 again. He
attributed this to the RockSoc committee meeting, as he believed that it
occurred every Monday. Oliver said 'Order' a few times and decided that he
liked it, so he said it some more.

It was noticed that Elizabeth had managed to spell her own name wrong in 4
different ways in the last set of minutes. This was felt to be amusing.

Oli complained that I had spoiled an innuendo he had asked me to add to the
minutes; and pointed out that it was him, not Baz who had suggested that we
should not embezzle the record collection.

Oliver noted that I had reported that Baz attended the Calling every week,
which was twice as often as anyone else.

It was noticed that the Positives usually attract large crowds, not large
crows as reported last week.

It was noted that Oli was wearing a Green Day badge. Oli was rightly derided
for this. It was also noticed that Elizabeth was wearing a Korn badge, and
she was unjustifiably derided at length by the assembled company.

A match was examined carefully by the committee. Oli said 'Oliver tried to
put it in my ear, Miss" and then demanded that I minute this statement. Kit
said 'Stop playing with Oli' to Oliver. Oli then asked if he could stroke
Siobhan's trousers.

The minutes were approved.

2) Treasurer's report
It was noted that Elizabeth can't spell the word 'week' without the help of
a spellchecker. Oliver confidently announced that no cheques had been
written this week. Later, under point 6 (below) he asserted that Baz had
written a cheque to CUSU. One of these statements is presumably a correct
report of our financial transactions this week.

The promised statement of the state of the RockSoc bank account did not take
place. The treasurer said that he had forgotten to ask the bank for a
statement. because he had been too busy playing Warhammer. He promised to
ask them for one today and to make the results known to the committee.

Emma confirmed with Oliver what had already been sent to the Societies
Syndicate, and agreed to speak to them again as they still seem to be very
confused.

ACTION: Oliver to ask HSBC how much money we have got.
Emma to speak to the Societies Syndicate.

3) WUS
Emma gave Elizabeth a disk containing the new, improved poster/flyer for
WUS. Elizabeth agreed to run off a few thousand flyers and a hundred
posters, provided she gets paid for the paper and toner. She will bring
these to the next committee meeting.

Oli asked if the file could be uploaded somewhere so that he can put it on
the website.

We have spoken to the Kambar about the situation regarding numbers at WUS
over the summer. They have agreed to charge us only L100 for the rest of the
summer since numbers are down so much. Last WUS there were more people than
there have been recently (many of them friends of Kev, who was DJing) with
the result that we made a profit (which nearly replenished the WUS box after
the unsuccessful Wasps recently.
The committee would like to record that it likes the Kambar, its management
and all their works very much.

It was noted that the new requests system at WUS had not been properly in
operation, and we may need more attention to it next week.

ACTION: Elizabeth to print the flyers and make the file available to Oli.

4) Festivals
Wacken: Baz's ticket has arrived. Elizabeth asked for her ticket in case Oli
gets run over by a bus. Oli will bring it next week. Siobhan reported that
she has bought a new, shiny pair of trousers for the occasion. Elizabeth,
has bought two, so there, but they are by no means as shiny and impressive.

Reasons/bands which might cause people to want to avoid Wacken were
discussed and caused some contention.

Bulldog bash: The interest in this event has not been enough to justify an
official RockSoc outing. It was therefore agreed that RockSoc would assist
informally e.g. helping people to find lifts. Ian is taking a car, in which
Siobhan has already bagged a place; Elizabeth will mail him the names of the
other interested parties and he can fins out if anyone else is going.

Bloodstock: 10 people now want to go, so it look as if this is a minibus
event. Oli said that he would like driving duties to be shared between him
and at least one other driver, with the staying sober to drive back post
being balloted for. Oli will look into the price of hiring minibuses this
week, and get back to us. Oli asked if the RockSoc bank account could pay
for the bus upfront. Oliver replied that it probably could not.
Jimmer's trousers arrived at the meeting at this point. Jimmer was also
noted to have arrived.

Whitby: Arrangements are ongoing.

ACTION: Elizabeth to mail Ian about people interested in Bulldog bash
Oli to sort out a minibus

5) October gig
Nothing to report, as no-one present knows anything more than they knew last
week.

6) Freshers' week
Baz was said probably to have paid CUSU. Good.

7) Boat Race bookings
Still need sorting out....

8) CD library
Elizabeth has catalogued this; a catalogue was shown to the committee.
Oliver said 'It's shit, isn't it' (Oliver says collection with Iron Monkey
in it is shit....this deserves noting).

The catalogue is in two parts. The first section contains those items which
bear a legal notice stating that they are not for resale (promo's and
freebies); Baz has moral objections to these being sold, so they could
either be kept or given away free. The second section is of items which do
not bear such a notice, and so could conceivably be sold; some of these,
such as demo tapes from bands, perfectly legitimately, others rather
dubiously as they were probably given to us as promos. It was agreed that we
should wait until October to dispose of this collection, as there will be
more people around then. Emma suggested that we have a party, listen to some
of the albums, and review them.

Oli suggested that an auction might be the best way to get rid of the ones
which can be sold for the greatest amount of money.

Oliver alleged that Terry Wogan was sometimes drunk.

9) Website
Elizabeth apologised for not having written the 2 reviews she had promised;
she attributed this to the fact that she kept leaving her credit cards in St
Neots. Oli has still not added the events for 2001. Evil Oli.

Emma proposed that some pictures of Baz unconscious through drink be added
to the site (there are some in our possession). In favour: 4 Against: 0
Abstaining: 0

10) Abhorring things
Oliver abhors Baz on the grounds that he is not here to defend himself.
Emma abhors Spain
Oliver does not abhor Barclays bank, for reasons that are best not recorded
here.
Neither do we abhor the Kambar who are great, wonderful, marvelous
etc.etc.etc.
Oliver , who is on the wagon, abhors sobriety.

11) Sick and the Dead
Emma still has the charity collection from this. She will try to find the
Clive Burr Multiple Sclerosis fund's address and sent it to them.

12) Cambridge band directory
Oli asked that this be added to the agenda. However, he has now drunk nearly
half a pint of beer, and is thus incapable of remembering what he wanted to
say about it.

13) AOB
Oliver abused Baz some more.

The committee wishes Peter, who is unwell, a speedy recovery. And didn't
even drink his beer after he was taken to Addenbrooke's.
