Minutes of the RockSoc Committee Meeting
31st October 2002

Meeting opened:2110

Present: Baz (wearing very badly applied corpsepaint), Emma (with horns), Elizabeth, Oli (dressed as a woman again), Ben

Apologies: Oliver

1) Minutes for approval
Three amusing typos were discussed. Emma liked best the one where she was instructed to book the Bat Race for March. She informed the committee that she had arranged one featuring 3 fruit bats and a pipistrelle over 100 yards for the 17th March. It is possible that she wasn't serious.

It was also nted that a member had received an offer of a bow job from a fresher, which perhaps wasn't right either. And what was going to go up on the website was the WUS flyer, not its foyer.

The minutes were approved.

2) Treasurer's report
Treasurer not found.

3) WUS
Ben will have a word with he management about the possibility of opening upstairs, but he said that he has discussed this with them and they are extremely unwilling to open it unless it is legally necessary.

Oli started ranting about whether or not Andy Cairns should have been given a free membership card.

Elizabeth showed the committee a poster she had prepared which gives info about WUS. Apart from the fact that she can't spell 'Hypocrisy' right, it was felt to be good. She will bring copies to WUS on Tuesday. Oli asked her to mail him a pdf of the poster.

ACTION: Elizabeth to mail the poster to Oli and bring some to WUS

4) November gig
The bands are confirmed for the November gig, so Emma can do the flyer. She offered to bring the proofs to the committee meeting next week. Geared4 will headline, partly because they are from out of town, and partly because AR are playing the Portland the previous night, and thus their fans won't come to see them anyway.

5) Lent term gigs
Emma has not yet booked the second of these.

She showed d a sample contract to the committee; she proposed that this be our standard contract in future. Oli suggested adding a clause prohibiting bands from playing any other gigs in Cambridge in the preceding week., Emma and Baz disagreed.

Baz asked Emma to mail it to Oli so it could go on the webpage. Emma gave a copy to Siobhan so Stan could have a look at it.

ACTION: Emma to book the March gig.
Oli to put the contract on the website.

6) Webshite
Baz has not yet bitched at CUSU about the out of date Societies Directory page. He will do so. He will also ask if the @cusu address can point to .slimy.greenend, rather than .chiark.greenend, as that bypasses the spam filters that are the problem.

Jimmer complained about a photo of him on the website. Another has been substituted for it.

Oli has implememted (sic) the pool competition totals. Unfortunately, at this point Baz became drunk and belligerent (well, he became belligerent anyway; he was already drunk) and started demanding that it should be taken down again because the wins and losses don't add up and thus it 'had no bearing on reality' (he must have liked that expression because he repeated it 6 times). The rest of the committee told him to stop behaving like an arse. Baz continued ranting for a long time until Elizabeth and Emma walked off in frustration. By this time he was offering to put forwards motions of no confidence in members of the committee. When I got back Baz has stopped behaving like an arse and the meeting recommenced.
Baz was in fact trying to make the following points 1/ Oli added a column for 'number of games played';This should be intuitive, but unfortunately it isn't, as they don't add up.2/ We should therefore take down the ladder until Oliver sorts the book out so that it's accurate. 3/ We should simply rename the link on the site as 'Oliver's list of random numbers', as this is what it currently is.

7) Tea shop crawl
This will go ahead. Oli will mail exact details nearer the time.

8) Record collection auction
It was decide that the auction of those items of the record collection which are not marked 'not for resale' will take place in the first 4 weeks of next term to give everyone a chance to bid. Baz ordered Oli to put the catalogue on the webpage.

ACTION: Oli to put the catalogue on the website and begin preparations for the auction.

9) T shirts
Oliver not found

10) Alice Cooper
Oli will organise a trip to this on an informal basis. Emma said that she intends to organise a trip to the Junction to see the Damned. (!?)
11) Recommended bands
The recommended bands this week are:
Queens of the Stone Age
Therion
Absurd
Hammerfall
The Damned
12) AOB
Two quotes were mentioned from earlier in the meeting to be minuted here.

From Baz: 'I'm not in denial. I'm just not a goth' (evidence to the contrary includes the fact that he has just dyed his hair black)

Elizabeth: 'You're pissed, aren't you?' Baz: 'Yes' Elizabeth: 'That'll be why you've got your corpsepaint smeared all over you ears' Baz ;'Yes'
