Minutes of the Rocksoc Committee Meeting, 24th April 2003.
==========================================================

Meeting opened 20.34

Present: Elizabeth, Katie, Richard, Emma
Apologies: Catherine, Peter

1. Minutes - The minutes of the last meeting were approved, although it was mentioned that they weren't as funny as the ones Oliver-Michael used to take. Whether this is a good or bad thing was not discussed.

The President and the WUS officer had a brief discussion about the Sisters of Mercy. The epithet "goth" was bandied about a bit.

2. Treasurer's Report - Katie (who is not a goth), produced a notebook and declared she had much to report. Everyone cheered.

2.1 Mandate - The Mandate is at the bank. Katie reported that she stood over the HSBC operatives and watched them confirm herself, Emma and Elizabeth as successfully ID checked. This unfortunately means we cannot sign cheques as A.Hitler and M. Mouse like we did last year. Still to provide ID are Catherine, Richard, and Oli. Our geological, cliff-hanging, and mythical-bird-appreciating sub-societies were once again given a brief moment in the sun by dim HSBC managers.

2.2 Bank Statements - The change of address form was signed by Elizabeth (who is also not a goth, except that she likes Slipknot), and Emma (who is not a goth either, except by reputation). This means that statements will be sent to Katie from now on, with a bit of luck. Richard agreed to drop the form in when he goes to pay in the WUS takings.

2.3 Balance - The most recent bank statement shows a balance of £1214.48. Less the £150 cheque paid to Elizabeth last week, this gives us a current balance of £1064.48.

2.4 Accounts - These are up-to-date and have been passed to Dr Greaves (who is, as far as we know, not a goth) for signing off. The Committee held a short reverent silence for the accounts, which will now not be seen for another six months while our Senior Treasurer does somethng nasty to them. Perhaps he is a goth after all.

3. WUS - Richard (who claims to be going goth), declared that stuff happened at WUS on Tuesday. He also declared that we made a somewhat peculiar door profit of £31.08, plus £12 in membership fees and payment from the CD auction. Elizabeth asked the committee to remind her at a lter date that she still owes Rocksoc £32 which she has so far collected from the auction.
O
li (who is not a goth per se, and is definitely not the ex-president's bitch, not at all) joined the meeting at 20.40 and was complimented on his photographic skills.

4. Termcards - Emma announced that these are still at the printers, but they will be ready by the end of the week and also will only be costing £39, which is quite favourably comparable against the previous cost of £55.96. This seemed to hgain a favourable reception as it means we will have more money to spend on bands and booze.

5. Membership - Richard has passed the details of new members (some of whom may be goths) who joined at WUS to Catherine. They are still awaiting membership cards.

6. Gigs - These were deemed to be ongoing, and not in a Ha bloody Ha way.
6
.1 May 18th - The gig at the Man in the Moon is sorted.

6.2 Venue insecurities - the Boat Race is still confirmed for June 13th and has also been booked for November 21st.

6.3 May Brawl - Bands that look likely for the May Brawl (June 13th) are: DragonForce (power metal, surprisingly reasonably priced)
Action Directe (electro-industrial, not goth) and
Diamantian (black metal, scouse).
Other options include Nadir (melodic thrash) and a death metal band whose name begins with E but i can't read what i've written.

WUS (addendum) Oli produced some photos he took at last WUS. He was further praised concerning his photographic skills. His gothicness was also further debated as he also had some photos from the Calling.

7. Website - There are apparently still a few problems with uploading minutes. Oli said these will be rectified. Likewise with the WUS setlists. Everything else is fine. Oli and Richard proceeded to narg for a few minutes until Elizabeth said "Order" to Oli's pint, which was of real beer not snakebite&black.

8. Festivals
8.1 Wacken - Oli has agreed to book flights ASAP. To do this he will require a cheque for the cost from Rocksoc. People who wish a flight to be booked will have to pay a deposit of £50 to Rocksoc and email Oli.

8.2 Whitby - November Whitby looks like it might not be entirely execrable. Anyone who wants to go should book their own ticket via Top Mum Promotions, and email Emma (who is only a goth by reputation) if they are interested in sharing self-catering accommodation. Oli (who is not a goth per se) asked if we could get 20 people all staying in one building. Elizabeth (who is not a goth but looks good in PVC and likes Slipknot), asked if Oli had ever seen Whitby town. Oli agreed that the buildings were quite small and expensive and it was probably a bad idea.

9. Other Events

9.1 Bat Race - The Cambridgeshire Bat Group still haven't got back to us to arrange this. Elizabeth suggested a proper race of bats, taking the form of a game of poohsticks only with corks made to look like bats, rather than sticks. This could be combined with getting drunk in a park somewhere.

9.2 Punting and Picnicking - ongoing. Someone needs to book with Scudamore's for June 8th.

10. Any Other Business

10.1 There will be NO committee meeting next week. But there will still be pub meeting with free pool.

10.2 Oli had no other business.

10.3 A vote was taken as to whether the Committee was goth or not. The decision was 4 to 1 in favour of "not goth". The offending dissenting hand was Mr Watts, who inquired as to where he could acquire some nice boots, ready-occupied or otherwise.

10.4 Recommendations:
Army of Flying Robots
Motorhead
Mist of Avalon
Bauhaus
Opeth
