Next gig - Esoteric + Indesinence + support 19th August Just to let you guys know of the next Rocksoc gig, on Friday 19th August. Esoteric - Apocalyptic doom grimnity from Birmingham. Fantastically original six-piece, layers of distorted guitars and vocals produce an amazing wall of sound. First leg of their European tour, with only two dates in the UK. Shall hopefully play for upwards of 90mins! http://www.bereft.co.ukIndesinence - Crushing funereal-like doom from London. Highly praised in the metal press for their recent E.P. Ecstatic Lethargy ("one of the most exquisite doom entities this country has produced for years." - Terrorizer). Similar to Disembowelment/Skepticism/ slowed-down early My Dying Bride. http://www.indesinence.comSupport TBC. Man on the Moon, Cambridge, Fri 19th August. Notts trip II: The REVENGE!!!!! Well, guess what.
I'm thinking of planning another trip up to Notts, against my better judgement. ;D
Just been on the blower, as it were, to my fellow ex-Rocksocers oop north and they've been telling me that Assault, their night, will be expanding this year, opening for longer, be cheaper, more lights and bands etc.
So I'm thinking; after the huge success of the last trip in May, fuck it, might as well see if any of you lot want to join. Hell, this time you students haven't even got an excuse, it being the beginning of the year and all (the opening is on Friday 14 October, by the way). ;D
I know a lot of you don't read this at the mo, but I sure the few that do can put it up on the website, send a few emails out etc to test the waters.
If not, I'll just run a couple of cars up.
So, you lot up for it? | | Monday, July 25th, 2005 | 9:11 am [smcv]

A Wacken-related post Those of you who saw a post advertising a space in the car for Wacken must be informed that it's been taken.
So I will replace the post with this: those of you who *are* going - could at least one of you take some kind of mobile communication device, and message me as soon as youve found your campsite? That way, when the Nottingham Three turn up a bit later on in the evening (we hope to be there by 9pm) we can all cram into one area and make it Very Metal.
Bollocks to the organisers for shuffling the pack so that Ensiferum clash with Bloodbath. However, as Ensiferum are (allegedly!) playing here in September to make up for the lost show in the Spring, this shouldn't be all that much of a problem... still hoping for a last-minute change, though.

KreuzDammer Needs You! We've just been told that we have a spot playing at Madame JoJo's next Thursday, at the Glitz club night (Formerly Club Noir), and I'm throwing it open to see who might be interested in coming? If we get enought numbers then we'll hire a minibus to and from the event, added the ticket price calling it £10 a head. So if you could say whether you'd definitely go, or might go, that would be appreciated. | 3:52 pm [fiona_kitty]

At very short notice... I have the box of Rocksoc Secretary stuff, but am going home tomorrow, until the 20th August. Can anyone provide a loving home for the Rocksoc Secretary box while I'm away?
It's quite bulky, though! | 9:50 am [doomslayer]

Anyone need somewhere to live? Many of you here may know I have a one-bedroom flat on Victoria Road, ideally suitable for anyone looking to live by themselevs - although a couple could just about fit in, at a push.
Lea is moving out on 22nd July, and so I'm looking for someone to fill the position. I'm advertising on the University Accommodation Service at £500 a month, though for anyone on here I might offer some kind of extra deal. This is a highly competitive rate as one of the other flats in the block of ten is going for nearly £600 a month, or there's one on King Street for £855...
Anyone interested, or any questions, get back to me. Preferably don't post here as the post will soon be lost, but you could send a note to the email address on my LJ profile.

Anyone for Thirteenth Day festival? Thirteenth Day 2005Birmingham Academy, Sunday 24 july Sonata Arctica Norther Finntroll Epica Dragonland Intense Seasons End As you can see, it's basically a power/trad/European metal festival. Tickets are eighteen pounds. I am very, very keen to go to this, but due to it being a Sunday, getting back from Birmingham is impossible 'til five in the morning or so. Ergo, I don't want to go alone, for both safety and boredom reasons. If anyone else would like to go and can provide any of car space, crash space or just company while we wait for the first train, PLEASE let me know ASAP. Tickets are still available AFAIK but I can't guarantee how long this state of affairs will last. Litmus last night and more metal tonight Well, Litmus played last night at The Man on the Moon. Myself, Lizzie, Jon Jarrett and the 10 other people there enjoyed it immensely. They were absolutely excellent - brought their own strobe lights, dry-ice machine and video projection to help create a superb atmosphere (maybe the lack of> people helped forge a more 'intimate' relationship between band and audience). It's a pity that none of the Rocksoc folk couldn't be bothered coming along and supporting a local gig, especially when a band of Litmus' calibre (they've supported the likes of Electric Wizard, High on Fire, Sunn0))), Julian Cope, Ozric Tentacles etc.) come along. Oh well.... Another gig at The Man on the Moon tonight, a couple of local bands (Dryad being one of them, who many people liked at the Rocksoc gig in The Portland Arms a while back):
Dryad Mutiny Deathtoll Equinox
Don't know much else about it, apart from that they are all metal of some sort. A few quid at most in and i suspect doors about 7.30pm. (i must admit i may not make this one)

Litmus at Man on the Moon From http://www.manonthemoon.freeserve.co.uk/listings.htmLitmus + Mr Zed + The Khe Sanh Approach Litmus - Excellent space-rock. They have recently finished a UK tour as support to Julian Cope (he asked them to support and is a huge fan) and have previously supported Arthur Brown, Hawkwind and the Ozric Tentacles as well as playing numerous gigs in their own right. Mr Zed - Mr Zed are five musical renegades who converge at the furthermost reaches of musical exploration. Each armed with their own influential powers but united in their vision and mission to unleash the sound of Dubedelic Space Rock to all that dare... Potential farewell pubbage Tonight being my last night as a permanent resident of Cambridge, I am tentatively planning to be down the pub for farewell drinks tonight from about 8pm, assuming that I have beaten the cleaning into submission by then, and haven't fallen asleep as a result of staying up till 5am this morning. I aim to be in the Maypole, and I'd love to see various RocSoc types there.
If the cleaning or the lack of sleep seem likely to prevent this gathering from happening; I'll post here not later than 6.30pm. | | Tuesday, June 28th, 2005 | 12:48 am [smcv]
