Manifesto: Nick Jackson, as WUS Officer 2006-07

Nominated by Simon McVittie and seconded by Keith Boyle

As many of you probably know, I have been coming to the Kambar on Tuesday nights pretty much every week I'm in Cambridge, especially on Wake Up Screaming nights, since my third week at Cambridge. While most people go to WUS to dance and have fun, I actually pay attention to the music being played and what people appear to want to dance to and what they enjoy. I hope this comes across in the response I have been getting from my DJ sets.

I don't mean this in a "If I'm WUS officer I'll DJ every week" way, I mean I believe I have a good idea of what should be played in the different slots of the evening and hence would be good at organising the right DJs and the right styles for the 4 slots of the evening. I think this is important for a good WUS.

Advertising WUS comes pretty much naturally to me. Almost everyone I meet that seems "alternatively inclined", shall we say, I explain Rocksoc and Wake Up Screaming to them in the hope of them making an appearance. This has actually worked on a couple of occasions!

I'm actually a second year here at the university still, so I'll be around Cambridge for a while yet and being at Clare College, and so living at The Colony, I live very close to The Pickerel so attending committee meetings regularly is no difficulty for me! It also means that I can quite easily get access to university email lists in order to publicise WUS more widely.

This was probably longer than you (and I for that matter!) was expecting, but hey!

see you at the Pickerel and Kambar!
