MINUTES
10/05/99

The meeting was called to order by la presidenta
at 2035 BST. Throughout the meeting absolutely no getting side-tracked*
was allowed. Even pausing for breath was frowned upon.
All of the committee were present except Jinx
who was off getting married or something.
1. The proposed end-of-term event.
We are still waiting for confirmation from the
Portland Arms. Baz assured us that he would "ring them tomorrow" and email
us the result with all haste. We are still hopeful that something can be
arranged in the month or so that we have left. The secretary is to try
and get some more .mp3 samples of the various bands online. Keeping Iris
were added to the list of possible bands.

2. Posters and flyers (WUS).
Alex told us that he now has m$ publisher and
can get on with designing some flyers. There was a short discussion as
to the various merits of .eps format as opposed to hardcopy. It was agreed
that the latter would be perfectly adequate and a lot simpler. Kit is to
do some special flyers to promote her Black Metal set (later this term).
It was noted that no flyers had been done in time for the next WUS (11-5-99).
It had been publicised though to members via the website/rocksoc-announce
and is now listed in Varsity.
The WUS officer told us that it was essential
for the design to be at the printers by the end of the week at the latest.
All nodded in agreement.

3. FTOTM for June.
It was decided that it should take place and although
some people will have exams looming, it will be on the 3rd June. Iain is
to ring the F&F and the format will be the same as last time (Beer/Jenga/Rock).
Kit will be DJ again. (There was some discussion as to Rob Wilcox being
offered the job, but according to Alex he is crap and repetitive.)

4. Flyers for the above.
Alex is to try and redeem himself. Posting them
to non-email members was proposed and all agreed that it should be done.
The treasurer assured us that we could afford it and the secretary pointed
out that it should be a lot easier with our new shiny computerised database.
There was then some discussion about ways to promote
T-shirt sales. The secretary suggested that the committee could all wear
them to the forthcoming FTOTM. This was badly received (they all laughed
at me). La presidenta led the assault saying: "Bloody walking around looking
like a load of sad gits is out of order." The committee is therefore not
going to promote the T-shirts by wearing them. The secretary was then accused
of wearing a RockSoc T-shirt inside out at that very moment. After being
subjected to a thorough investigation by the web warlock, he was proved
to be in fact wearing a plain black T-shirt. It was proposed as an alternative
that T-shirts should be displayed on the door at WUS.

5. Progress with the website/mailing lists.
DD (that’s David Damerell if you’ve been wondering)
was blamed for some of the links being messed up on the website and various
other things. Since we are now an official society, we are able to apply
for space on the university PWF. This is to be done and a page linking
directly to the current website will be put up. Alex informed us at this
point that the Metal Hammer website was crap.

6. AOB.
It was suggested that the (permanent) swapping
of CDs should be encouraged/facilitated. Alex is to look into ways of incorporating
some sort of list/database into the website.

The meeting was closed at 2056 BST. We did all
that in only 21 minutes!

* This is quite curious – the grammar checker
on m$ word97 disagrees with "side-tracked" and suggests "sidetracked" instead.
The spell checker is not happy with that and says that "side-tracked" is
the correct spelling.
