MINUTES
31/05/99

The meeting was called to order at 2044 BST.
An apology was extracted from Baz for being absent at the last meeting.
Jinx was still away honeymooning.
1. APU Freshers’ Fair.
Iain is to talk to Paul and try to find out more
about it. At present there does not seem to be any great urgency to finalise
arrangements.

2. Website.
Although it has been much improved, it was noted
that there are still a number of things that need fixing: some of the links
between the pages are messed up, there are many spelling and grammatical
errors, and the minutes from 2 weeks ago are missing. In addition, there
had been some heated discussion on the newsgroup regarding the prominence
and timing of details of the May Brawl.
Alex told us that the messed up links are not
his fault, but occur when DD transfers the pages onto chiark. The other
committee members agreed to email him details of the errors, since it was
impractical to try and describe them all there and then. Alex apologised
for being rather late in putting up details of the May Brawl, when it was
pointed out that he had known since last Tuesday. A prominent banner is
to be erected on the front page, linking to the ‘events’ section where
it is currently hidden away.
For most of the above discussion, the Treasurer
was hitting buttons on a calculator (staring at it with a rather confused
look on his face), while resting his head in his hand.

3. FTOTM.
The place is booked, the membership have been
informed and Kit will be using the kit.

4. May Brawl (publicity/cost/security/bands).
As (2), details will be available on the website.
The WUS Officer is to announce it on the new rocksoc-official email list
and also produce some flyers for the Secretary to post to the 50 or so
non-email members. There was some discussion as to whether this was worth
it, but the Treasurer assured us that we could afford it and it was generally
agreed that it should be done.
It was agreed that it should cost £2.00
for members and £3.00 for non-members. People will be allowed to
join on the door. It was suggested that members of other rocksocs should
be offered discounted entry (Alex said a while ago that he would try and
spread the word around the rocksoc webring), say £2.50 but that was
decided against. The venue will not cost us anything and since one of the
bands (Zerotonin) will be bringing an 800W PA, we will only have to hire
some drum microphones. It was agreed that we should attempt to break even
and the major bands should be offered some sort of payment to help with
transport costs.
At this point (2054) Alex went to get a drink.
It was suggested that there may be need for some
sort of security due to the reputation of The Locomotive. After some discussion
it was decided that there was not much of a problem and that we would take
care of this ourselves – there will be a large number of us (including
so called "scary" people like Shaun, Keir, Paul & Steve). It was noted
that a group of bikers should not be a problem and would in fact be quite
welcome.
The shortlist of bands were: Zerotonin, Bleachface
(formerly Vae Solis), Rome Burns, Lady Cadaver, Through The Red and Keeping
Iris. Iain told us that we should try for three or four bands, preferably
three for an evening event starting at around 7 or 8, depending on when
we could start sound checking. The committee had had several requests not
to get Rome Burns and since the two goth bands would be playing in Cambridge
soon anyway it was decided not to ask either, despite suggestions from
the Secretary that we should try to get something for the gothic proportion
of the membership. Keeping Iris were dismissed as not being heavy enough
and so it was agreed that we should have Through The Red headlining, supported
by Zerotonin and Bleachface with an appropriate division of the time available.
There will be a DJ in between the bands.
Iain is to confirm the booking with the landlady
and sort out a start time.

5. Ozzfest II.
There has been practically no response to the
suggestion of tickets and/or transport for this event and so the idea has
been discarded as uneconomical. The committee apologises to those that
did want to purchase tickets and such people may find the following links

The meeting was closed at 2104 BST.

ADDENDUM:
There will be no charge for the May Brawl, since
the licence of The Locomotive does not allow any to be made. However if
anyone wants to make a voluntary donation of a quid or two towards covering
the cost of the evening then it would be much appreciated.
