MINUTES
25/10/99

The meeting was (again) started at 2044 BST.
All were present apart from Baz who had sent his apologies due to illness.

1. Publicising the end of term gig ("Rocksoc
X-Fest") to members.
The WUS Officer informed us that Epitome were
not yet confirmed – they were apparently getting arsy with their manager
who had advised us to get in touch with Chris personally. This is to be
done ASAP so that posters/flyers can be produced and posted to all non-email
members.
Vae Solis were agreed on as the second band with
Age Of Ruin as possible reserves. It was mentioned that Dave Tyler could
get us a band at a couple of week’s notice if necessary.

2. Visit by Brunel Rocksoc.
La Presidenta confirmed that the visit planned
for 9/11/99 was off, but that they may want to come later, in which case
they had been told to give us at least 3 weeks notice. It was pointed out
(in the light of us arranging a coach for the Brumfest) that they could
hire a coach to bring them here and take them away afterwards – it would
be significantly cheaper than coming by train and would remove the problem
of crash space.

3. Publicising the availability of Brumfest
tickets to the Freshers’ Fair signers’ list.
It was agreed that this should be done (on Tuesday
morning, along with a reminder about WUS). It was also agreed that people
would have to join before being able to buy tickets.

4. R/s & G/s trip to TBWP.
This was suggested by the Secretary, and there
was some discussion as to whether it was really committee business or not.
It was decided that some effort should be made, and La Presidenta is to
email a suggested time and date.

5. Website.
It was noted that progress had been made although
there was lots still to do. Kit promised an update by Wednesday and will
also look into getting rid of the popup thing.

6. Rocksoc CD library.
This was to be postponed so that Brumfest tickets
could start to be sold, however Kit insisted that it be discussed.
It was brought up because of DJs at WUS not being
able to satisfy requests. We were informed that we had about £1000
in the bank and Kit’s suggestion was to buy a selection of CDs (suggestions
to be made by the membership) and said that they would be "harder to embezzle
[than money]". This was generally agreed not to be the case, since it had
happened with the old one (Jinx: "we *used* to have a CD library…"), and
also that the compilation box sets that she suggested were hideously overpriced.
It was noted that organising a vote on which CDs to buy was also not a
simple task.
An alternative (credit to DJ for the idea) was
to burn some CD-Rs with popular tracks and make these available for DJs
to use. This was regarded as a better option, although whether the CD decks
at the Q-Club (Roger’s own now that he has fixed them) would cope with
a CD-R needs to be determined.
The discussion got a little side-tracked* and
ended up talking about a possible trip (next term) to the LA2 Rock Night
in London. This (subsidised transport to the aforementioned event) was
regarded as a better use of Rocksoc money than buying CDs. It will be discussed
more next term.

The meeting was closed just after nine.

For the record Iain got the first Brumfest ticket(s).
* Again there is the curiousness of m$ word97
in that the grammar checker disagrees with "side-tracked" and suggests
"sidetracked" instead. The spell checker is not happy with that and says
that "side-tracked" is the correct spelling.
