[STOP PRESS]
MINUTES
17/01/00
The meeting was called to order at 2043. All
were present except Baz, who
arrived at 2046.
1. Email from "Stamford & Area Musicians
Association".
The Secretary showed the rest of the committee
an email received at the end of last term from the aforementioned group.
It was agreed to reply saying that we were not sure what we would be doing
this term and we would contact them if we required anything that they were
offering.
2. T-shirts.
The Secretary asked how many were left and if
we were close to needing to choose a new design. It was announced that
they had been misplaced, and so they need to be found before a decision
is made regarding new ones. The committee reaffirmed that they would choose
the design and not try and involve the entire membership.
3. Clare Rock Night.
Rocksoc and Clare Ent's are to jointly organise
a rock night on 29-1-00. The committee had been contacted by a member of
the Clare Ent's team who wished to organise a rock night; he has provided
the venue and we are to organise DJs, and possibly Vae Solis as a live
band (who may be paid). The cost will be £3 (or £2 for Clare
students) - sadly no discount for Rocksoc members. It will be publicised
by email and on the website. It was noted that it clashed with Rishi's
leaving party.
4. FTOTMs.
Jinx informed us that the February and March ones
are now booked and that it may be possible to get a late licence (until
12 o'clock) for these. It is to be looked into. Several members had asked
for quizzes, live music, and even bring-and-buy sales to be held at these
events, but it was decided to leave things as they are.
5. AGM.
Everything is arranged, and the F&F booked.
The Secretary is to print out the email and post it to all non-email members.
La Presidenta is to put all nominations on the website. It was agreed to
count hands and not bother with ballot papers. All postal votes are to
be counted before the meeting and we will be fussy about people not being
able to vote if they don't bring a valid membership card. All candidates
will be required to make a short speech.
At this point, an unspecified member of the committee
made the comment: "That's not a figure head, that's a condom head!" about
an unspecified person. She then pleaded for it not to be included in the
minutes.
6. WUS.
It was agreed to keep the current system of 8
30minute slots. It was noted that some people manning the door and issuing
membership had been very bad at obtaining complete and legible details
of new members. A reminder piece of paper is to be produced to accompany
the membership book.
7. Freshers' Fair list.
It was agreed to send a final email to the list,
reminding people about Rocksoc and telling them that they should have joined
by now.
8. www.rocksoc.org.uk.
Over the holiday, this domain name has been acquired
by Rocksoc (through 'Firevision Ltd') and now points to our website. The
Secretary suggested that we should have cambridge.rocksoc.org.uk and allow
other rock societies to purchase other subdomains, the main page displaying
information about how to obtain these and saying that we owned the domain.
There was some concern that this would give us a lot of extra work but
it was agreed that it would be OK, provided that the other societies could
deal with Firevision directly. All "@rocksoc.org.uk" email addresses are
to point to the current r/s-committee list. There was a brief discussion
as to the merits of
acquiring www.rocksoc.co.uk, in order to avoid
imitations. It was decided that we should not be paranoid about such things.
9. Gig/Trip this term.
The WUS Officer informed us that there might be
a gig organised. It was agreed that the end of term would be the most suitable
time. It was pointed out that there are to be 3 trial gigs at The Alma
before it gets its entertainment licence back, and many Rocksoc members
had already been there and spoken highly of it. Information and a map are
to be put on the website.
As far as a trip is concerned, it was agreed that
the Astoria Rock Night would be a good choice. Week 4 was mentioned as
a possible time, and the committee are to investigate further (including
confirming if it is LA1 or LA2 (as the other is a Gay Night)), and also
see if we can bulk book. It is likely that we will book a coach, as we
did for the Brumfest trip.
The meeting was closed at 2116. La Presidenta
continued to protest with:
"Please don't drop your pres in the shit when
I'm nearly finished my term.".
