MINUTES
01/05/00
Present: Oli, Baz, Andy,
Jimmer, Gina, Kit, Iain. The Meeting kicked off
around 2045 and was accompanied by beer and 'Paranoid' and 'Ace of Spades'
from the jukebox. On repeat.
1. GINA SORTING OUT A MAP OF CAMBRIDGE TO SHOW
PEOPLE WHERE THINGS ARE
Unfortunately still not happened, but Gina promised
that this will be sorted out this week, and that it will be up to Dave
Tyler's criteria.
2. THE WUS OFFICER'S IMPENDING EXPIRATION
Andy's met membership is due to run out very soon,
but he promised to give me some money before the next WUS. On other
membership related business, I'll be sending out an e-mail to any new members
who haven't received a membership card yet - if you could e-mail me back
I'll get one to you this week.
3. MAY BRAWL
At the moment there appear to be problems.
we can't hold it at the APU because of their summer ball, so our original
plan for a 'mini-festival' is out the window. However a smaller event
was decided upon - Oli promised to get in touch with the Portland Arms
to see if they'll have us sometime between 15th and 22nd June (and if not
maybe try some other pubs). I promised to e-mail some bands and see
if any are interested. At this point Kit complained about having
to sit through Slayer in order to see Iron Maiden - the appropriate abuse
should be directed to ces31@cam.ac.uk. The rest of the committee
would like to distance themselves from such extremist nonsense.
4. TRANSPORT TO MAIDEN
As so many members of Rocksoc are going to the
Maiden gig in June, the possibility of a minibus was discussed. Andy
said he'd e-mail rocksoc-official to see how many people are going. It
was agreed that if enough people to fill a minibus were going, Rocksoc
could contribute to the cost.
5. MAIDEN PLAY-BACK NIGHT
Kit suggested that we have some sort of album
play-back night on the day the new Iron Maiden album comes out (29th May?),
where we'll play the album, then follow it with a couple of hours of classic
Maiden and the obligatory gumbying. Kit is going to get in touch
with the Fresher and Firkin and try and sort out some flyers. There
then followed a discussion concerning ways to improve turn-out at FTOTM
and the Monday pub meets. Suggestions included the return of things
like the Rocksoc pub quizzes, pub crawls and pool nights. All of
these ideas would really be important for the beginning of next term and
attracting new members.
6. CUSU STUFF FROM LAST WEEK
The forms concerning stalls at the Freshers' Fair
and the societies' directory were filled in and left with either Oli or
Iain (I can't remember, I was quite drunk by this stage), who said they'd
sort out the cheques and hand the forms in to CUSU. I said I'd get
in touch with CUSU about selling membership and T-shirts at the Fair, and
find out whether we can play music.
7. T-SHIRTS
We still don't have any decent suggestions - Oli
is going to spam the mailing lists to see if anyone has any better ideas.
Be warned, if no-one comes up with anything, our best suggestion so far
is printing a naked photo of Dave Tyler on the front.
8. ANGLIA LIASON OFFICER
Tom didn't turn up to the meeting again.
Kit has promised to 'kick his arse'.
The meeting ended at about 2145. Me and
Jimmer went and asked the bar staff if there was any possibility of getting
any decent music on the jukebox, and have handed in a list of requests.
