Minutes of the RockSoc committee meeting
1st July 2002

Present: Baz, Elizabeth, Oliver, Emma, Oli

Meeting opened 2101

This week's meeting was rather less enthusiastic than usual, by reason of
the President and Secretary being both totally exhausted and extremely hung
over, having only got back from Dungeonfest at about 2.30 this morning.

1) Minutes for approval
The following corrections were pointed out in the minutes from last week:
Kit was the person who pointed out that Elizabeth was good at being
patronising.
Elizabeth's computer does not run pout. In fact it runs a natty windows
emulator under linux, but that's not relevant. She doesn't need a printed
cartridge, either. In fact, the correct facts are that she needs a new
printer cartridge, as hers is running out.
The committee is not worried about the half life of potters during Freshers'
Week, but the half life of posters.
Elizabeth is trying to shift CUSU, and not sift CUSU as reported last week.
And Baz has never, to our knowledge, been mistaken for the CU Geology
Society.

Apart from this lot, the minutes were felt to be accurate, and were
approved.

Oli said something about printing minutes double sided in future again. He
does this a lot, and if he wants to buy me a new printer he is welcome to do
so. Baby seals were mentioned by the committee.

Oliver said that he was going to dress up as Rob Halford at WUS tomorrow.

Elizabeth bought a glass of wine, and commented that every time she looked
at it she could feel her liver and kidneys wriggling about looking for
somewhere to hide. Richard asked her not to put the agenda in his dinner.

2) Treasurer's report
This week the treasurer has paid Oli L600 as part of the money for the
flights to Wacken. Oli asked for more. Richard said that he thought Oli
ought to be given an alternative cheque a few minutes later.
The Society has also written cheques for L84.02 to Siobhan for the MayBrawl
beer rider, and L30 to Richard Watts, who paid for the punts during the
official punt party.

Oli showed the treasurer receipts for the Wacken trip as follows:
L165.50 for 4 tickets to the legendary Wacken Open Air Festival
L432.80 for 4 flights to Hamburg @ L108.20 each

Oliver exclaimed that this did not amount to L600, but to L598.30. He
accused Oli of embezzling L1.70. Oli pointed out that RockSoc still owed him
several hundred pounds.
Oli further stated that this week he has spent L181.18 on Baz's aeroplane.
Elizabeth said that RockSoc was getting delusions of grandeur if it had
bought a presidential aeroplane. Oli said that she knew perfectly well what
he meant.

He also handed over receipts for L50 for 5 coach tickets to Stansted. Oli
will photocopy all these receipts and give them to Oliver tomorrow at WUS.

Elizabeth pointed out that 5 journeys had been purchased, but only 4 tickets
for Wacken, and that she detected a deficiency of Wacken tickets in this.
Oli said he had ordered one.

The WUS box has not yet been topped up, as Ben has the keys, and Ben is not
here. Baz will lend it some money for tomorrow. He will meet Ben tomorrow
afternoon before WUS and give him the WUS box; Ben will give him the decks.

The mandate has gone thorough, and Emma has been given a lovely letter of
apology.

ACTION: Oli to bring photocopies of all the Wacken receipts to WUS.

3) The MayBrawl
The Junction has provided a breakdown of numbers as requested.

We had 95 paying customers, and door takings of L600 exactly. We need to pay
the Junction L586.

It was pointed out that we had expected to pay the Junction only L450; this
is because we forgot all about the VAT. It was suggested that the committee
please remember the VAT in future, especially when it is clearly mentioned
in the contract.

Elizabeth noticed that he bag was deceased.

We are now in a position to get some money from the Societies Syndicate.
Oliver will prepare a statement of all moneys in and out tomorrow and
deliver it to the Old Schools.

ACTION: Oliver to deliver full statement of losses to the Societies
Syndicate.

4) WUS
The WUS box is currently down L83. Baz will lend it L83 tomorrow and RockSoc
can pay him back.

Elizabeth said "I'm going to take my trousers off because I'm too fat" (and
because her kidneys hurt a lot). She noticed that she was 3 inches fatter
when her kidneys hurt than when they didn't. Kidney failure crossed her
mind.

Emma has been ill this week, so the new batch of WUS flyers has not been
done. They will be here next week.

Elizabeth suggested that we do not send advertising to the 6th Form Colleges
at present ( as we suggested last week) as the Year 13s have left and
therefore everyone is underage. If anyone decides to take exception to this,
it could conceivably have repercussions for the Kambar's licence.

The advert for this week's WUS has duly appeared in the NME.

Baz noticed that there is a new magazine called RealCity, rather like AdHoc,
and suggested that we ought to get something in there.

ACTION: Emma to print flyers and posters
Baz to lend the WEUS box L83

5) The Proctors
Oliver stated that he was great and wonderful and that all should worship
him. The committee duly worshipped Oliver.

Dr Greaves has signed the accounts for last year!!!!!

A conversatin was reported between Baz and Dr Greaves as follows:
'Do you have the receipts for all this?'
' Not per se. Oliver has them. Honest'
'So you have no evidence that these accounts aren't entirely fictitious'
<nervous laughter>

However he signed them, and one copy has been delivered to the Proctors. The
proctors have not yet confirmed that they are satisfactory. Baz will also
give a copy of these accounts to Oli to put on the website.

Baz stated that he had posted the committee to the Proctors. Oliver said he
wondered why he woke up in a n envelope on the floor of the Old Schools.

Oliver again stated that he was great and we should worship him.

ACTION: Baz to send Oli a copy of the accounts for the website
The committee to worship Oliver.

6) Freshers week
Oliver put the accounts on the table and admired them. Baz said' They're not
big and they're not clever, and they're beginning to smell'. Richard pointed
out that the accounts were in fact quite big.

Iron Monkey was discussed again. It was mentioned that Morrow had apparently
died of kidney failure. For some reason everyone pointed at Elizabeth and
laughed.

Baz has updated the Societies page and directory and has applied for a stall
at the Societies Fair. We have obtained permission to sell memberships.

Baz has obtained a natty map from the internet of public houses in
Cambridge. It has 118 public houses. Baz suggests a pub crawl which starts
in Michaelmas term and continues until General Admissions. Baz offered to
design the pub crawl, to take place the week after Freshers' week.

It was pointed out that if the crawl is to have more than 2 pubs in it, we
will need to bring a shopping trolley to put Oli in.

Elizabeth suggested carrying out a survey asking members why they decided to
join RockSoc. Oliver said that he thought it was a stupid idea. Elizabeth
will do it anyway :-)

A cage full of scantily dressed goths was suggested as a way to get
attention at the Societies Fair.

ACTION: Baz to organise a pub crawl
Elizabeth to find out why people join RockSoc

7) Festivals
Jimmer ate all the left over pies.

The trip to Graspop is arranged and will set off at 1am this Friday, a time
when Richard pointed out, all sane people will be sleeping.

Wacken appears to be under control.

At present , there are 4 people who want to go to Bloodstock. Oli will mail
-official and announce that there will therefore be a minibus arranged (or a
car if the number of people doesn't exceed 5)

Jimmer said that a lot of crap pop music has recently been put on the
jukebox. He asked if I was responsible for it.

Whitby has been suggested, and Emma, who is the only one on the committee
who knows about this kind of music, will mail -official asking for interest.

Someone also needs to mention the Bulldog Bash. I will look up the details
and mail official

Elizabeth was by now so tired that she had to ask Emma what her name was.
Oliver echoed Elizabeth's previous comment that he had legs. Oli's belt fits
Siobhan.

Baz wishes it to be minuted that Dungeonfest was very good, and that anyone
who preferred football should be castigated. Jimmer said that he had put big
speakers in his car, which made his weekend a bit more metal. The chair
started wandering around the table aimlessly, like one who is worried about
his 1st year report.

ACTION: Oli to mail -official about Bloodstock
Elizabeth ditto Bulldog bash
Emma ditto Whitby

8) -committee list
John Sullivan queried our request to take Andy Hudson off the list, saying
that he only took people off at their request or if a motion had been passed
by the committee. A motion was proposed that Andy H be removed from the
-committee list
In favour:4 Against:0 Abstaining:1

9) Boat Race bookings
Oliver has said that he intends to take over the booking for 14th September
for a private piss up. Matt has expressed interest in the other bookings,
and Baz will check with him if this is the case.

Baz said that he wanted to fondle Oliver, and Oliver made obscene gestures
under the table. Emma wishes it to be minuted that for once she's not drunk
or ill or bleeding. Though she does have some impressive bruises from the
Graduation dinner. She doesn't know how she got them. Fire and Forget
started having a band meeting. Baz said 'Order!'

Elizabeth will mail committee the number of an excellent grindcore band
called Failsafe Failed who appeared at Dungeonfest.

ACTION: Baz to check with Matt about Boat race bookings

10) Abhorring CUSU and all its works
We still abhor CUSU, but not as much as last week.

This committee also abhors Stagecoach Cambus and all its works, especially
the 8A at 1915 which never fucking runs

This committee also abhores Jon Bon Jovi

11) CD library
Ha bloody ha

12) AOB
Some photos of the Maybrawl have been collected. They ware shown to the
committee, and include a selection of pictures of Blackrock with their heads
missing, Darkcell out of focus, and Hannah's fingers. The committee were a
bit disappointed. The committee decided that it would not be buying a set of
these prints from Hannah. Baz is owed for the photos at present. Oli will
put some of the better ones on the website.

A 'silly quotes' website was suggested. Elizabeth will collate some existing
ones, and Oli will make a form by means of which you can add them.
