Minutes of the RockSoc Committee Meeting
5th August 2002

Present: Baz, Elizabeth, Oliver, Emma, Oli (on time!)

Meeting opened 2130

1) Minutes for approval
Either the minutes were more accurate than usual or everyone was very tired
after Wacken, because noone was able to find any amusing typos to record.

The minutes were approved.

2) Treasurer's report
Oli demanded a clean napkin and Jimmer stole his burger while he was
preoccupied.

Oliver said that no cheques have been paid in or out this week, that Geared
4 had still not cashed their cheque, and that the monies remaining in the
bank were L500 (we still owe Baz L1000). He stated that that the account
book was now up to date; Baz asked him to bring it to the next committee
meeting.

Emma has been to see the Societies Syndicate. They have told her exactly
what they need from us, and Emma has e-mailed this to them. We therefore
hope for a cheque in the near future.

ACTION: Oliver to bring the minute book next week.

3) Freshers Gig
We still haven't contacted the Positives. Elizabeth gave Emma the Positives'
phone number; she will contact them this week.

The pop punk band we asked did not respond yet.

ACTION: Emma to contact the Positives.

4) Other gigs
Oliver and Kit have seen Stan and arranged for the Sept 14th booking to be
changed to a private party (their wedding reception). Stan asked Siobhan to
get us to clarify what is happening to the other dates. Emma will speak to
Stan tomorrow as she is going to a gig there.

ACTION: Emma to speak to Stan at a gig.

5) Festivals
Wacken. This happened. Three members of the committee are very hung over and
sunburned. Everyone enjoyed themselves and got very drunk. Oli stated that
he had embezzled one Euro and 10p. He said that he would bring photocopies
of all new receipts to next week's meeting.

Bulldog bash: has been arranged privately. There is no official RockSoc
transport, but everyone who's going knows how they are getting there.

Bloodstock: Oli has been asking bus companies, but they are very unwilling
to hire minibuses to people under 25 or charge huge amounts if they do. Ian
said he thinks he knows the name of a place that will and he will e-mail it
to Oli. Baz said that Andy H used to get minibuses from a place called
Anglia or something.

Oli is asking that everyone who wants to go give him L40: this will cover
the ticket and ensure that he ahs some money up front for the minibus. He
asks that the money be payable to him not RockSoc as we collected the Wacken
money and then spent it on the MayBrawl and couldn't pay him, and he no
longer trusts us.

Whitby: Tickets cost L23. Several people were interested; It was suggested
that RockSoc hire a house, and Emma said that she would look into this.
However it was felt that like the Bulldog Bash this should not be official
RockSoc committee business.

Ian asked if a herring was a kind of bird.

ACTION: Oli to photocopy Wacken receipts and bring.
Ian to tell Oli the name of a bus hire company
Oli to ask about minibuses some more.
Emma to organise accommodation for those going to Whitby

6) The Sick and the Dead
The cheque for the charity collection has been sent to the Clive Burr fund.

A card for Jester was passed round the assembled members.

7) Band directory
This time Oli knew what he wanted to say. However he insisted that the item
should be called The RockSoc Bands Contact Band Database. The committee had
no particular objection to Oli insisting on a pretentious name.

Oli said that someone should collect together all the info RockSoc knows
about bands and their contact details and store them in a database. Baz used
his presidential powers to volunteer Oli for this work. Everyone should
tell Oli everything they know about bands they can hire. There's one called
Fire and Forget for example, they're really good :-)

Baz asked Oli if the website was done. Oli replied 'Not per se'. Baz said
that he did not like this news, please bring me some other news. By next
week.

ACTION: Oli- Events 2001.
8) This item was 'The Sick and the Dead' for a second time. I really must
not write the agenda when I'm drunk.

Baz and Oli agreed to write a letter to the organizers of Wacken asking them
to sort the sodding shuttlebuses out next year to avoid having 1000
metallers trying to get onto one bus. It was felt that a letter from
Cambridge RockSoc should be sent thanking them for the great festival but
asking them to enforce a PROPER BLOODY QUEUE next year. And to make '8 buses
an hour ' mean that in a period of one hour an average of 8 buses, rather
than 3, turn up.

ACTION: Baz and Oli to post critics to the appropriate address (as the
Wacken website puts it)

9) Abhorring and adoring

We abhore Ryanair who lost half our luggage on a flight to Germany. Also
Costa who Jimmer feels make inadequate toasted sandwiches. Oli abhores
German tea. We all abhore sunburn and leaking cesspits.

Oliver abhors the committee, and Baz abhors committee meetings.

We adore Mark's Gumby set, messages from Andy M when he is drunk, fish in a
bun and the Wacken chili. Elizabeth proposed that we adore mead for
breakfast, but only Emma agreed.

Meeting adjourned 2148 for Baz to answered the phone. Oli asked why Oliver's
badge wasn't equal. Oliver told him to piss off. Meeting opened again 2151

10) When drunk Baz asked me to put on the minutes 'choosing a collective
noun for metallers'. Now he is a bit more sober he isn't so keen, and said
we should postpone this item to be considered carefully at a point
indefinitely far in the future.

11) AOB
Emma proposed a trip down Mill Road to buy shiny leggings. Baz said we
didn't need to organise this. He did however propose a trip to Bodyworks to
buy dodgy clothes. It was agreed that this should be organised for
September. Baz will put this on announce.

As of the Monday after next, the Alma will be having a quiz night on
Mondays, which means that we would disturb them if we were having a meeting
in the same room. It was therefore proposed to move the RockSoc pubmeet to
Thursday for so long as this state of affairs should continue. Elizabeth
will notify the lists of this. Baz will change the bit that says 'Monday' on
netgoth and in the Freshers' Handbook. Oli will change the website.

Elizabeth will be away visiting her mother for the next 2 weeks. She will
write this weeks' minutes and post them to -committee; Baz will make any
necessary changes and forward them to -announce after 48 hours in the usual
way. Emma offered to do the minutes next week. Fortunately the change of day
means that even though I'm away fro 2 weeks I only miss one committee
meeting.

Baz wished it to be recorded one more time that Wacken was great.

ACTION: Baz to put trip to Bodyworks on -announce.
Elizabeth to mail lists about change to Thursday
Baz to change the day of the pubmeet everywhere he can think of
Oli to change the website
