Minutes of the RockSoc Committee Meeting
17th October 2002

Present: Baz, Oliver, Elizabeth, Emma, Ben (and Oli, late)
1) Minutes for approval
It was noted that Elizabeth had once more spectacularly failed to spell her own name correctly in the minutes. While they were at it, the committee noted that a typo in this week's agenda, 'Record Collection Suction' was one of the best for some time.

The minutes were approved, except that Oliver objected to the fact that Baz had offered to kill him because he hadn't turned up due to being seriously ill in Addenbrooke's. However, as this was a problem with Baz, rather than the minutes, they were approved. .

2) Treasurer's report
The treasurer rummaged in a grotty carrier bag and swore several times. He tore up a cheque which he found in the bag. He swore some more.

The treasurer stated that this week a cheque for L900 had been written to Baz. He didn't say what the balance was.

An anally retentive member, who shall of course not be named to avoid embarrassing him, although the Secretary did happen to mention in passing that she was married to him, has complained that the treasurer's report of 2 weeks ago contained an error of 35p. The committee checked the figures for some minutes and agreed that the Treasurer had said '15p' and the Secretary had misheard this as '50p'. The new balance should in fact have been L343.15

The Secretary said that there was some excess cash in the petty cash tin which had been taken in memberships. It was agreed that it should contain L30. The Secretary took out L25 and shoved it in her cleavage as a first step towards getting it banked. Oliver will bank it this week.

ACTION: Oliver to bank the money which he found shoved down Elizabeth's top

3) October gig
A contract has arrived form the agent with less than a week to go before the gig. He has omitted to sign it. The committee found it surprising, especially the parts about the rider and not giving reduced entry to members, both of which contradicted things discussed with the agent by e-mail. Also the part about the dressing room. We have duly considered the contract and will endeavour to fulfill the contract to the best of our ability. We expressed our opinions of the contract at length.

Emma gave the rider to Siobhan, who will arrange with Stan about the large amount of beer on the rider. Emma will go to the venue at 4.30 to meet the bands, and Oliver will go along about 7pm when he finished work.

4) November gig
Kevvlar have got in touch with Emma and expressed their willingness to play, although they have not yet been formally booked.

Emma offered to make up some flyers for this gig. Oliver was said to have once been in the habit of writing the names of people he disliked on his penis.

ACTION: Emma to book Kevvlar and make flyers for the gig.

5) Freshers
A member asked if anyone had fucked a fresher yet. No one replied.

On a more sensible note, Elizabeth has mailed all the interested Freshers about the gig and the pubcrawl. She will mail them tomorrow with details of WUS. She asked Ben to supply her with details of this week's WUS for this purpose.

6) Pubcrawl
The pub crawl has not yet gone out on -official. Elizabeth will do this too.

Oli mentioned his approval of the start time of this year's pub crawl. So far he has shown no sign of organising an alternative pub crawl.

7) LENT TERM GIGS!!!!!
Stan has provided us with a list of possible dates. The committee decided that it would be possible to put on 2 gigs next term providing we did not hire excessively expensive bands. It was agreed that there should be a Valentines day massacre on the Saturday nearest Valentine's day (this is the 15th Feb) and another gig towards the end of term (early March)

Two bands have expressed an interest in the first of these dates. Criminal, whop we heard a Wacken, were said by all those present to be 'fucking brilliant' and the committee agreed to their plating. Mulch, a doom band advocated by Jimmer were also provisionally agreed by the committee. It was noted that the Valentines Day gig should be of extremely heavy stuff.

Richard arrived. Oliver snarled 'You arse!!' with impressive snarliness.

The meeting was then adjourned for the Treasurer to start a pool game.

ACTION: Emma to book the dates
Baz to contact the bands

8) Mail from Warners
Ben has sold his soul. In return for free CDs he is now employed by the Forces of Darkness (aka a major label) to vote in end of year polls as directed by the aforesaid company. And other works too....

The committee discussed what it would like to do to employees of major labels.

9) Kerrap! person
Baz has spoken to her. Apparently she has stated that she has some stickers, and Baz has replied '!'. She will come to the next WUS and meet us.

10) Tea shop crawl
Oli now wants this to be on the 12th November rather than the 17th. Baz says we are still not subsidising it.

11) Record collection auction
Oli needs a copy of the catalogue to put on the website. Then he can arrange an auction

Baz spent some time flirting with Oli. Suction and Oli's skill at it were discussed.

ACTION: Elizabeth to bring a disk with same next week.

12) T shirts
Baz hasn't asked if they can be sold at the Alma and Oliver hasn't brought them. GET IT DONE! said the committee

13) Petty cash box
Elizabeth gave this to Emma to use at the gig on Saturday. Unfortunately she forgot to give her the membership book that goes with it....

14) Pool tournament
Oliver will give the book direct to Oli so that Oli can put it on the website.

A new tournament will now start, without winner stays on, as the numbers are too high.

ACTION: Oliver to give the book to Oli.

15) A+A

Baz abhors both Cambus and everyone in the world.
Emma abhors those who forget to read the back of council leaflets
Baz abhors the weather on Tuesday which apparently managed to make him late for a supervision.

BAZ adores a fridge which he owns . It contains both beer and cheese.
Oli adores organisation.
Ben adores Simsbury's, who have paid him more than he expected.
Baz adores all the committee 'even Oli'

16) AOB
Richard wants a Dr Who watching evening to be subsidised. Baz said 'no comment'

It was announced that Vincent was wet, someone having tried to put him into a pint of beer on Saturday

Baz said that the members' gallery doesn't work with his browser.

It was decide that every week the committee should recommend a band each for the edification of members. Members can amuse themselves trying to guess which committee member recommended them.

This week's recommended bands are:
Sonic Youth
Summoning
Doro
The Cure
Soft Cell
Thou Art Lord
