Minutes: 2002-2003/2002-11-07
Minutes of the RockSoc Committee Meeting
7th October 2002
Present: Baz, Elizabeth, Oliver, Ben, Emma, Oli
Meeting opened: 2046
1) Minutes for approval
IN a fit of incompetence, the Secretary had left both the minutes and agenda at home and brought some blank sheets of paper. Nevertheless, the Committee approved the minutes.(?) and they didn't make fun of the typos :-) Hmmm.. an idea begins to form in my mind.....
Baz acknowledged that last week he behaved like an arse. (but he still wants to raise the matter of the pool ladder)
2) Treasurer's report
The treasurer says that he has been too busy to treasure this week. He promises that he will have some idea of the financial position of the Society by this time next week. Honest. Yes he will. He'll even have a little presentation to give about how much better we are off.
WUS has been paid in. This week it amounted to L153. Ben noted that our hard work with publicity seems to have paid off, and the initial disadvantages of the move to the Kambar have been overcome; this time last year, when we were still at the Q club the profit was L100.
ACTION: Oliver to GET A BANK STATEMENT
3) November gig
Emma has been unable to send out the flyer due to computer problems. She will mail it to Baz this week and he will sort it out. Baz noted that his e-mail account is just about to change to one at .elvis.com
ACTION: Emma to mail the flyer to Baz
4) Other gigs
Matt's gig is next Friday. RockSoc has offered to help him distribute posters, and will put it on -announce.
Baz will ask Eviscerate AD to open the Valentines' Day Massacre. Mulch and Criminal have not yet replied.
Emma has not yet booked a date at the Boat Race for March.
Stan has had a look at the contract we are proposing to give to bands in future. He has suggested some extra clauses, including a penalty for not turning up without good reason, or damaging his equipment. Elizabeth said that she objected on principle to a proposed clause forbidding stage diving; Emma suggested that instead we put 'The band will cooperate with all reasonable requests ,made by the venue about activities which might be damaging to the venue'. And then the band can argue it out with Stan as to what is reasonable and what is damaging.
Elizabeth pointed out that the clause on accepting the 'sound levels' selected by the sound man was ambiguous, and that it would be more acceptable if the clause said 'overall decibel level', so that it's clear it doesn't mean that he's allowed to insist on turning the guitars right down until they are inaudible in the mix, as was a problem a year or so ago at a number of Boat Race gigs.
ACTION: Emma to book the Boat Race for March.
Baz to speak to Eviscerate AD
5) Webshite
Elizabeth said that she had lost the instructions for adding the minutes to the website. Oli offered to send them again. Baz then introduced the pool ladder, but was very restrained and agreed that they should add up in future. He also said that he was not an arse this week.
The record catalogue is not done, and Oli complained that people have not been sending him flyers. Elizabeth mentioned in passing that the committee had failed to notice the appearance of Slayer twice in the list of bands on the WUS poster. Baz said that no blame could be attached to him for his failure to proof read, because he was unable to read during last week's meeting by reason of drink. Several other committee members alleged that they _had_ noticed, but had not said anything because they like Slayer so much.
Oli also asked if he could be sent the DJs for the rest of term to put on the website.
ACTION: Elizabeth needs to put loads of stuff on the website.
6) T-shirts
Oliver has forgotten to bring them. He was asked to bring them next week, and also to bring them to WUS. (someone needs to get permission for this at Tuesday's calling.
ACTION: Oliver to bring some T-shirts.
7) Recommended bands
This week they are:
Burzum
Halford
Linkin Park
Fugazi
Solitude Aeturnus
Satyricon
Emma mentioned something about 19th Century operettas under her breath.
8) AOB
Mostly consisted of people telling each other about which albums they had bought recently and how good they were.
Oli also mentioned that he had some good photographs.
Emma said that anyone who wanted to go to see the Damned later this month at the Junction should mail her.
ACTION: People who are going to the Damned gig to inform Emma of same.
