Minutes: 2002-2003/2002-11-14
Minutes of the RockSoc Committee Meeting
14th November 2002
Present: Baz, Oliver, Elizabeth, Emma, Oli
Apologies: Ben
Meeting opened: 2056
1) Minutes for approval
Oli complained that action points in the minutes are slipping and are now sometimes incomplete. The Secretary refrained from pointing out the obvious fact that his minutes never contained ONE action point at all in all the time he was Secretary (so there).
The objections petered out and no one objected any more to the minutes, so presumably they were approved.
2) Treasurer's report
The treasurer was very efficient this week. He had finally got the bank statement and even seemed to know what he was talking about :-) He said that this week L153 had been paid in from WUS and that the balance in the bank account was currently L1018.60, with no obvious outstanding debts.
Everyone was very relieved that our financial situation was now what it ought to be. Baz said 'Let's book the Junction!' and Emma said (censored). Oli demanded that a chart be presented to the members showing takings at WUS over the years so we can tell how we are doing, with different colours and everything, all big. And presumably prettified.
3) November gig (Friday 22nd)
Everything seems to be sorted out, except that Kevvlar have still not confirmed that they can play. If they don't do it soon they will be replaced.
Elizabeth asked what the bands were going to be paid. She pointed out that AR are playing a support slot at the Portland in the same week, and that support bands at the Portland usually don't get paid at all. She also pointed out that L50 was considered a pretty good haul by headliners at 'local sized' venues in Cambridge, and that therefore that as our financial situation is not as brilliant as it once was we should consider paying less than we have done in the past. It was agreed that each band should receive L50 plus a crate of beer, and that Geared4 (who are from London) should also get their traveling expenses.
Siobhan offered to go to Majestic and get the beer. Since Emma has not received any special dietary requests, she will provide the usual sandwiches.
Prices for this gig are to be the standard prices: L2.50/3.50 for members and L5/6 for non members.
Baz will put this gig on -official this weekend and again just before the gig. Emma will print flyers and bring them the Vae Solis gig tomorrow to hand out.
At this point, it was discovered, worryingly, that most of the committee had no idea when the gig was. Even more worryingly, everyone then discussed this for several minutes. Hmm...
ACTION: Emma to orgainise flyers for the Vae Solis gig.
4) Other gigs
Emma has now booked the March gig date at the Boat Race. Unfortunately, in spite of being actioned to book it for 8th week, she has for some reason booked it in the middle of the Easter Vac (29th March). It was pointed out that this is not exactly satisfactory. The correct date should be he 8th of March. She asked Siobhan to discuss this with Stan.
The contract fro Criminal is a work in progress.
Baz says he will help publicise The Calling's Killing Miranda gig.
ACTION: Emma to complete the contract and send it to Criminal.
Emma to cause the Boat Race booking to change to the correct date.
5) Webshite
Oli told off Elizabeth for not uploading the minutes AGAIN. He's right.
Oli pointed out that last week the Pool Book showed 11 wins and 10 losses as having occurred. He ranted at Oliver about this at length. It was decided that in all cases Baz should be used to make up the numbers. Baz has now been appointed Official RockSoc Fudge Factor in addition to his prior roles.
The minute book records that at this point the Committee said 'Ho!'
Some set lists have been added to the site this week.
ACTION:Elizabeth to upload the sodding minutes
6) T shirts
Are here and on sale. But no bugger is interested in buying them.
7) WUS
The committee said 'Hurrah!'. They resolved to distribute flyers for same at the Vae Solis gig tomorrow, in the hope of further 'Hurrah!'s in the future.
8) Record auction
Oli claims that this is 'ongoing'.
ACTION: Oli to cause it to go on
9) Damned gig
Does anyone know why this is on the agenda? Oh well. Err... there is one. On Sunday 24th November.
10) Recommended bands
This week your committee recommends:
Satyricon
Coal Chamber
Nick Cave
Frost
Helloween
11) AOB
Emma cried 'Harry Potter!!' Reason left as an exercise for the reader.
The T shop crawl was pronounced a success.
Oli says that he abhors the fact that the membership are not complaining about the website... (???) and that they should complain more. (positive comments also welcome, but when do RockSoc people ever bother with those)
Baz adores the membership. He expressed certain political opinions about strike action, namely that those who do it are cunts.
Oliver's broke
ACTION: Everyone to complain to Oli about the website so he doesn't feel left out.
Meeting closed 2120
