Minutes: 2002-2003/2003-02-13
Minutes of the RockSoc Committee Meeting
13th February 2002
Present: Baz, Emma, Oliver, Elizabeth. Oli Turned up about 20 minutes before closing time, which doesn't really count.
Meeting opened:2040, signified by Baz playing air microphone to the jukebox
1) Minutes for approval
Emma wrote some minutes last week and everyone said they seemed to be right, apart from the things which Emma later admitted she left out. On a greater level of incompetance, Elizabeth admiited that she has lost the notes for 3 weeks ago's meeting without having typed them up. This is not good. She will look for them, as she doesn't remember a damned thing that was said.
It was noted that Emma had not put the minutes fo the last 2 weeeks' meetings on -announce, only on -committee. Elizabeth will post them to -announce.
ACTION: Elizabeth to 1) find the missing notes 2) post last week's to -announce 3) stop being so bloody incompetant
2) Treasurer's report
The bank account contains L1025.65. The treasurer seems to think that everyone will be very interested to hear that he has ordered a new chequebook.
3) Gig on Sunday
The gig will take place on Sunday 16th Feb. Since it is a Sunday, everything will happen half an hour earlier than is normal , with doors at 7 and first abnd at 7.30pm.
Costs anticipated to be:
Mulch L50
Surge: L40 (they have a long way to travel)
Humanity L40
Food rider: L20
Beer: we already have 1 crate left over so we need yo buy 2 more. No-one told the Secretary what 2 crates of beer cost, she guesses about L60
Total cost anticipated to be: L210 plus whatever Stan is charging us for venue hire, which was naother thing which someone forgot to tell the Secretary.
Emma will greet the bands at the loading in time, which is 4.30pm.
Baz will post the gig on -Official
ACTION: Emma to sort out rider and run gig
Baz to put it on -announce
4) AGM
The booking for the Graduate needs to be confirmed this week.
The cost of room hire is L100, or L50 id we spend more than L400 total at the upstairs bar. Members are therefore requested to buy their drinks here, rather than downstairs on arrival.
The meeting will follow the usual format. It will open at 8pm, and the agenda will be:
Presidential address (somewhere in Cherry Hinto last time I looked, but this is what he wants on the agenda)
Treasurer's report
Election of committee memers for 2003-2004
Constitutional changes
AOB. (Baz says that he will say this one very quietly. He also mentioned killing Oli Wade first in this context)
The committee agreed that they wanted to propose one constitutional change, namely that membership fees should be set by vote of the current committee, ratehr than at the AGM only. Elizabeth will draft a proposal along these lines and post it to -official. Baz offered to second the proposal.
Elizabeth noted that as yet only one candidate for RockSoc Committee has come forth, although there are only 8 days to go to the closing date for nominations. She finds this just a little bit scary, not least as she has ABSOLUTELY NO BLOODY INTENTION OF TYPING MINUTES FOR ANOTHER YEAR, ok? She will post a reminder on -official about the deadline for nominations.
Elizabeth reminded the committee politely of the annual farce which was the mandate for transfer of the bank account to the new committee. This usually involves a long period during which the new committee need to ask the old committee to sign cheques, accompanied by a series of meetings at which the mandate either isn't present or doesn't get signed by everyone. She therefore came up with an exciting idea which she hopes makes her sound really efficient, namely (wait for it) getting the bloody thing _before_ the AGM and forcing the new committee to sign it before leaving the building. Well it sounds good on paper. If nothing else it means the annual farce can start earlier.
Baz reminded the committee that at the beginning of their term of office, they entusiastically agreed to write a job description and other advice for incoming committees (not hiring the Junction was mentioned at this point). Now that the time hs come to do it they are all suddenly much less enthusiastic, butn evertheless Baz decreed that it is to be done. He ordered us to do it in a Presidential way.
ACTION: Emma to ring the Graduaute to confirm
Elizabeth to draft a proposal for constitutional amendment.
Oliver to get a mandate. And not to get so drunk that he forgets this time.
Everyone to write a job description.
6) King's Cellars Thingy
The JCR at King's approached RockSoc some time ago about the possibility of making one of their Friday night Ents a rock night. Unfortunately the day they picked turned out to be the AGM night. (and Baz didn't notice :-). However, as the event goes on till 1am, it seems that it may actyually be a good thing as we can then go on from the AGM. Ben will provide the music, which will be commercial metal and punk
Baz said that on this occasion he intends to get as pisssed as usual and say 'Order' to his pint a lot; in fect more so than usual because he will be so happy not to have to do any more committee work again. The rest of the committee concurred that they were going to celebrate excessively, except the Secretary who said that it wasn't fair the rest of them celebrating when she had to go home and type the bloody minuets. Oliver was alos lamenting as he had to get up for wok the next morning nad thoughtthatthis might inhibit his drunkenness.
6) March gig
Ongoing. Elizabeth noted that the local band hired, then called Eternal Damnation, are now called Pestilent Swarm. The committee said that they thought the name was much catchier.
Emma promised to start working on the flyers.
ACTION: Emma to do the flyers
7) WUS flyers
Elizabeth repeated her wish that there were some current ones.
ACTION: Emma to make these too
8) May gig
After discussing the possibility of finding out for 6 weeks, the Secretary has finally done what she promised and discovered that the Satuday of 1st week is May 3rd. This doesn't actually get us any forwarder, but is felt to be a step in the right direction.
ACTION: Emma to book the Boat Race
9) Maybrawl
This hasn't been booked because the Graduate don't book romms that far in advance. Richard made some sounds about wanting a gig not a party. However, it was pointed out that the Maybrawl was jinxed; in the last 5 years it has 1) been cancelled because the venue was inexplicably underwater 2) had the headlineers fail to turn up and 3) lost 2000 quid. It was decided not to tempt fate.
10) Officially a non issue
as Baz denies ever telling Richard to shut up in the circumstance prompting the item.
11) Also officially a non issue,as this was space left for Oli's traditional alternative agenda.
12) Webshite
The words' what's happened to the record collection auction' were mentioned. Oli wasn't here so they were largely ignored.
13) The committee recommends bands
Oliver began the proceedings by recommending 'Silence'. Baz said 'Try again' in a dangerous voice, and Oliver bethought himself of: Audiowarfare.
The other recommendatons were:
Swans
Strapping Young Lad
Torquamada
It was noted that no member of the committee recommended Zwan. Several people had an opinion on why this might be the case, especially the ones who had heard them.
Meeting closed 9pm
