minutes of committee meeting, 5/04/04
-------------------------------------
Meeting opened at 8.43pm
Present: Richard, Oli, Baz, Keith, Elise, and (briefly) Emma.
1. Minutes of previous meeting
Minutes approved
2. Treasurers report.
Still no mandate - Emma will try to get one from the Hills Road branch.
Same amount of money as last week.
Action: Emma to get mandate
3. Gigs
17th of June has been confirmed with the MotM for the May Brawl, and we've
told them we want the 28th. Richard needs to find out the venue specs for
Interlock ASAP. Once they've been passed on, Baz will give Interlock a
fairly short time to say whether they want to play or not, so we can get
termcards out. Assuming they can play, they've said they'll do it for
travel expenses and beer, so anything else is a bonus. Richard will talk to
Intense about the May Brawl, and find support.
Action: RICHARD TO GET EQUIPMENT SPEC FROM MOTM. Baz to get confirmation
from Interlock.
4. Termcards.
Emma gave Elise contact details for Design and Print, who did them last
time, and will forward her a template. Elise to find out if they still have
the basic template, and find out costs and timescale for getting them
printed. Oli suggested that the website address be made more prominent.
Action: Emma to send template to Elise, Elise to get cards printed.
5. Trinity Event.
This will be on May the 7th. It will cost us £86.86, and a £200 refundable
deposit. Entry will cost £1 for Rocksoc/Trinity members, and £2 for
everyone else. It will only be open to members of the University. We
presume this means all members and not just current students, so this might
be a good time for people to get one of those nifty graduate cards. We have
to do any advertising external to Trinity. Then followed a very tedious
argument, which culminated in a decision that there would be a footnote
about this added to the next batch of WUS flyers, and event specific
advertising would be done closer to the time.
Action: Keith to check that graduates are permitted, Richard to add footnote
to WUS flyers
6. Advertising/promotions.
Advertising in Kerrang and Metal Hammer turned out to be too expensive to be
worth bothering with. Hills Road have the free WUS tickets, and flyers &
posters have gone up there. They may also be holding an Alternative Ball
later in the year, and asked if we'd like to be involved. Richard's
response to this was "Young, impressionable 6th Form girls? Are Rocksoc
interested??"
7. Webshite
New committee pictures and contact details are up. Baz has now taken over
as manager of the CUSU directory for Rocksoc, and their information seems to
be up to date, although he's not sure if we automatically get into the
listings or not. Oli suggested that we really should implement role-based
email addresses, both for the committee and for the mailing lists.
Action: Baz to check what's going on with CUSU listings, Richard to set up
role-based email addresses
8. Fresher's Fair.
It was suggested that we could do with some sort of gimmick for this, as
most people seem to sign up and then forget about us, so we could do with
being memorable. Oli suggested dancing girls in a cage, and Elise offered
to try and borrow a cage from some of her dodgier friends, but the idea was
shouted down. Getting rock (of the sweet variety) made was also suggested.
Action: Oli to find out how much rocksoc personalised rock would cost.
9. Adoration & abhorration
The committee adores:
Cats, tea, Kurt Cobain, cryptic lambdoid prophyls, and pine furniture
The committee abhors:
Dogs, cats, Baz, Kurt Cobain and wardrobes.
Meeting closed at 9.18
