RockSoc Minutes 23/10/06

Committee Present: Simon, Nick B, Nick J, Keith (!), Gemma

1. Simon will be in America for a conference (for 1 week) leaving in roughy 2 weeks time. Nick J is Acting President during this time.

WUS

2. Next 3 WUS's sorted, just need DJs for the one after term ends. Simon put forward his name for this one (2nd slot). Hopefully more people will turn up than last year (26) despite the students going home.

Action: Nick J to e-mail Simon the DJ list (although the list was then manually copied by Simon at the meeting).

3. Need more WUS publicity for Nov, Dec and 1st Jan date.

Action: Simon to design & print posters, flyers etc. Everyone else to distribute these, starting in about a fortnight (when Simon's in the USA).

4. Hallowe'en WUS - decorations? Decided on a pumpkin, possibly with dribbly glowstick filling as drool/eye liner.

Action: Nick B to acquire, hollow out, carve, groovify and transport said pumpkin to WUS.

5. 50p Price rise. Definitely happening in the year. Y'know, "New Year, New Term, New WUS Price!" And damn the 50ps.

GIGS

6. Nov 17th gig sorted (Mael Morda, Mass Destruction & Plague Ridden). Shouldn't overspend as bands only being paid a cut of any profits.

7. Need publicity doing for 17th gig. Keith brought posters and flyers along and these were distributed to various people for spamming of the Kambar, MOTM, a few colleges and a few club nights / gigs. Flyers have already been sent to Ipswich, Colchester and London rocksocs.

8. Gig booked for March 11th (Saturday!), Litmus to headline but no others confirmed yet. Simon suggested Kreuzdammer as support as their latest gig was unfortunately on the same night as the Pubcrawl therefore they may appreciate being on an official gig. Having KDammer could also constitute a joint Rock-Goth Soc gig.

9. Joint gigs with GothSoc - been banded about for a while but no-one's contacted Keith with any proposals. Generally thought a good idea, but need communication between both sides first.

Action: Simon to prod Mark & Doree about joint gig ideas.

10. Idea of doing a college based rock night. Nick J proposed a joint Rock-Goth Soc night in Clare as the venue is the crypt under the college chapel...

General Action: Keith, please e-mail committee with gig plans before booking venues/bands so we can check the bank balance first.

CHRISTMAS QUIZ

11. Date decided - Monday 27th November, replacing the pubmeet.

12. Venue. Still wavering between The Rose & Crown and The Castle. The R&C is a fair ways out (would need to meet up with freshers in the city centre and walk up) whereas The Castle is non-smoking (but does very nice food).

Action: Simon to ring up and get quotes. This may be delegated to the committe if he's too busy.

TEASHOP CRAWL

13. Put this on a gig day as then people can be herded along to the venue afterwards.

TREASURER

14. Accounts still with Rich W. Simon happy to leave him alone as he's very busy and doing accounts takes a while.

15. Simon is owed £48 for webhosting.

Action: Someone locate a checkbook and some people to sign it.

16. Nick J still to pay in money from WUS, but will do it soon.

SECRETARY

17. Minutes done earlier this evening and sent to Simon. Apologies made for late arrival.

Action: Simon to upload the backlog minutes to the webshite. Gemma to type them earlier in the week.

18. Membership cards are all processed and up to date for this term so far. Reminders have been sent to anyone with a near expiring year membership.

19. The database needs checking around exam time to try to catch people before they leave Cambridge and acquire a working e-mail address from them.

20. Mounia has brought cake to celebrate Eid!
