MINUTES OF ROCKSOC AGM
======================

15 March 2002

1/ President's Report

Andy thanked everyone for turning up, previous committees for giving us a
society to work with, and the non-committee members who've turned up to
meetings and contributed. He gave a summary of the events of the year
which have included the Picnic & Punting, the Freshfest gig, the Viagra
Falls gig, the trip to Nottingham's True Metal Night, the recent Wasp
Factory gig, and the upcoming Revcounter gig on the 30th. He talked about
the problems we had with the Q closing down, and restarting WUS at the
Kambar. He mentioned plans underfoot for events in the near future, to
include the May Brawl at the Junction, for which bigger bands are being
booked, and more dates at the Boat Race, to continue the support of local
bands. He thanked AndyH for organising various trips, including some to
European festivals, and added that if anyone else wanted to do anything
similar they should get in touch with the committee.

2/ Financial Report

The current bank balance is £2,715.80
In addition to this we have about £800 in the WUS/Events cash boxes, and
around £250 of t-shirts

Although we tried very hard to spend money this year - about £2000, mostly
on gigs and hiring the Kambar, we've had a high income as well, so we've
not managed to reduce the balance at all. Next year we'll try very hard
to spend more money on things like bigger bands and bigger venues.

Dr Greaves, the Senior Treasurer, is happy to continue in this role, and
it's been a generally successful year financially.

Richard Watts asked how much the outlay for the May Brawl would be, and
what sort of loss we expected to make. Emma responded that we've made
losses of between £200 and £300 on the smaller gigs, and we can afford to
double or triple that for the May Brawl.

3/ Motion to introduce the new post of Events Officer

Andy proposed the motion, saying that there has been an increased workload
for the committee now that there are lots more gigs on and this would be
reduced by introducing an Events Officer to be the face of Rocksoc for
events, to take input on bands, liase with contacts for bands and venues,
and to take responsibility for ensuring that advertising gets done (but
not actually doing it all themselves)

Motion passed.

4/ Elections

Nominees for President:

Baz Jones nominated by Andy McLellan & seconded by Andy Hudson..

Baz promised not to go on for ages, but wanted to re-iterate what was said
in the manifesto. He said the committee for the past few years had done
well, and he aimed to continue this. He intends to work on improving
publicity, especially for WUS, as well as pestering people about
day-to-day administrative things like membership cards, minutes and
updating the web site. Other than this he wants to continue much as last
year.

Nominees for Secretary

Elizabeth Watts nominated by Richard Watts & seconded by Jim Waterman

Elizabeth said that everyone had seen her manifesto, and promised to do
all the paperwork on time.

Emma asked if Elizabeth would be prepared to send out a mailshot of Term
Cards three times a year, and Deano asked if she would do things that
weren't actually paperwork, despite not being strictly in the job
description. She answered yes to both questions.

Elizabeth - 31 votes + 1 postal + self

Nominees for Treasurer

Oliver-Michael Longdon was nominated by Emma Bennett and seconded by Barry
Carriline as a last minute candidate.

Oliver said that we all know him, as he's been around for years, that he
works in retail, so he's used to handling money, and that he love's rock
music and wants to help out.

Oliver - 32 votes + self
RON - 1 vote
Abstentions - 0

Nominees for Webthing:

Nominees for WUS Officer

Ben Joyce nominated by Andy Hudson & seconded by Baz Jones

Ben said that he thought WUS was a good night, which he goes to all the
time, and he'd keep it this way. He promised to be organised and pay
money into the bank regularly as well as organising more publicity for it.
He's spoken to Andy Hudson about it and knows what's required for the job.

Andy commented that he is confident that Ben would be good at the job.

Ben added that he thought it was important to keep a mixture of the
'popular' music at some points in the night as well as giving people an
opportunity to play new and different kinds. He said that he'd give sets
to anyone who asked for one, and that he'd look into restarting FKA as
soon as possible.

Ben - 31 votes + 1 postal + self
RON - no votes
Abstentions - 1

Nominees for Token Fogey

Peter Rowsell (Jester) - nominated by Baz Jones & seconded by Ann Tennent

Jester said he was old, decrepit & a drunk, which he thought qualified him
perfectly for the role.

Oliver asked how old he actually was - nearly 32 apparently.

Jester - 23 votes + 1 postal + self
RON - 1
Abstentions - 1

Nominations for Events Officer

Emma Bennett nominated by Elise Conolly & seconded by John Sullivan

Emma said that this year nearly all events had been organised by one of
four people, and since the others were either going to be busy next year
or were leaving Cambridge she's happy to take over. She knows that some
people think there's been too much emphasis on goth this year, but hopes
that she's approachable enough for anyone to come to her with ideas for
things to put on.

She added that she didn't plan on taking over everything that needed
doing, but would organise other people to do so. She planned to design
term-cards so that people know in advance what's going on, and get college
& real-world reps to help with publicity.

She commented that we can see from the success of this year's events that
she is up to the job.
